HomeWatch ReviewExclusive Hands-On With New Yema Watch Superman 63 Watch ReviewExclusive Hands-On With New Yema Watch Superman 63 Another hard to resist vintage inspired release by Tomas Rosputinsky June 29, 2020 MIN READExclusive Hands-On With New Yema Watch Superman 63When you say Superman, most of the population see handsome Clark Kent dashing to the bathroom to don his cape. When I hear it, I see a vintage divers‘ watch by French brand Yema. Today, Yema hits us with a re-edition of the 1963 OG with the shiny bakelite-like bezel. Enjoy it with us in an exclusive hands-on review.
Months ago, I heard from the Yema communications team that a vintage-inspired skin diver was in the works. I instantly thought about early Yema Superman watches with framed lumed indexes big enough to drown in. If you don’t remember them well enough, you can read Mike’s piece about the LeJour-branded Yema Superman 87062 for the US market. His piece is quite unique as it came with an original leaflet, which p..

A Record-Breaking Weekend At The Geneva Watch Auctions

This weekend in Geneva, the traditional watch auctions took place. Things were different than before, as many Covid-19 precautions were still in place. Also, a lot of collectors and dealers could not travel to the auctions themselves due to various travel restrictions. This also meant that they could not examine the watches themselves before the sale, although various digital initiatives tried to give them as much information as possible. That made it that the auctions could definitely be seen as a test on how the outbreak of Covid-19 would impact the vintage watch market. READ MORE

The Laventure Transatlantique GMT Watch Elevates Brand To New Level

HomeWatch ReleasesThe Laventure Transatlantique GMT Watch Elevates Brand To New Level Watch ReleasesThe Laventure Transatlantique GMT Watch Elevates Brand To New Level Things just got serious… by Rob Nudds June 29, 2020 MIN READThe Laventure Transatlantique GMT Watch Elevates Brand To New LevelI’m on holiday. I shouldn’t be writing this. But social distancing measures on trains mean my travel partner is sitting a row in front of me and more concerned with the bag of cherries we stashed for the journey than my company. And, more to the point, this is the release I’ve been building up to all year. Today, the Laventure Transatlantique GMT hits the shelves. Move quickly. With just 100 pieces available, I don’t think this one will hang around for long…
I am the proud owner of the first two Laventure watches. I have the Marine (with a green dial), and the Sous-Marine (with a bronze case and a black dial). Had a blue or brown dial been included in the Transatlantique’s debut I would own one..

It is the catchphrase Oris has chosen for their new series of Hölstein Edition watches. Like many of you, I love 007, so a good Bond reference is always welcome. But what does it stand for? Well, Oris shows us with a new series of limited edition watches. The first in the series is the visually stunning Oris Hölstein Edition 2020. It’s an all-bronze version of the well-known Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph. The moment I took the watch out of the box, I thought: “Now this is something I will enjoy!”. With the Oris bling factor turned up all the way to 11, this one is for fans of making a statement.
Before I get into the details of the watch, I would like to get back to “From Hölstein w..

You Asked Us: Can Watches Be Recycled?

HomeYou Asked UsYou Asked Us: Can Watches Be Recycled? You Asked UsYou Asked Us: Can Watches Be Recycled? The circle of life… by Rob Nudds June 27, 2020 MIN READYou Asked Us: Can Watches Be Recycled?Believe it or not, this one has hit our inbox on several occasions. With more and more people tuning-in to the challenges facing our environment today (and the potential cataclysm awaiting humanity in the not-so-distant future) it is perhaps unsurprising. Sustainability is key. The responsible disposal of waste has never been more important to so many people. Reducing consumption by reusing old products is a proactive hobby sweeping the globe. And so that’s probably why you asked us, “Can watches be recycled?”
Well, the simple answer is yes, they could be. Pretty much every watch component is either recyclable or “upcyclable” in some way. It is not that common for watches to be recycled, however, as the majority of the components, once worn out, do not have much residual value. This is di..

Pre-Owned Picks — Discontinued Oris Watches

HomePreowned PicksPre-Owned Picks — Discontinued Oris Watches Preowned PicksPre-Owned Picks — Discontinued Oris Watches A vintage selection from Oris for week 26 by Ben Hodges June 26, 2020 MIN READPre-Owned Picks — Discontinued Oris WatchesThis week, I am checking out some intriguing watches from Hölstein’s premier independent. Yes, I am talking about the plucky soloist Oris. In its heyday, Oris was outputting up to 1.2million watches and clocks per year. The onset of the low-cost and reliable quartz timepieces from Japan in the ‘70s and ‘80s, however, took a toll on the brand.
The choice was either to follow the herd and produce quartz with a Swiss twist or, like so many Swiss watch-makers, fold and fade into obscurity. For a time, Oris did produce a range of quartz pieces. But fortunately, a management buyout in 1982 changed the fate of Oris. The brand became Oris SA and swore never to make a quartz-operated wristwatch.
Oris Diver Sixty-Five released in 2015

Audric SeaBorne 500 M Dive Watch Prototype Review

HomeWatch ReviewAudric SeaBorne 500 M Dive Watch Prototype Review Watch ReviewAudric SeaBorne 500 M Dive Watch Prototype Review A task that raised some interesting questions… by Rob Nudds June 26, 2020 MIN READAudric SeaBorne 500 M Dive Watch Prototype ReviewWorking as a watch journalist is obviously a massive privilege. It’s something I am reminded of in myriad ways on a daily basis. Probably the clearest example of this privilege is being privy to new releases before they hit the market. In many cases, this means having the chance to see, wear, and review groundbreaking releases from some of the most prestigious brands in the world. At the other end of the scale, however, is the opportunity to see fledgling brands come to life. We are frequently sent watches for review from makers hoping to catapult their efforts into the limelight. Recently, I spent a few days with the new Audric SeaBorne 500 M. The model I received for review, however, was a prototype, which made for an interesti..
