The Delma Oceanmaster Antarctica Limited Edition is an exciting twist on one of the brand’s best-selling timepieces.

The company developed this model for their ambassador and Ocean adventurer, Nick Moloney’s expedition to Antarctica. The team aimed to commemorate the 1820 discovery of our least populated continent, 200 years later.

For this special occasion, Delma created a limited edition of 200 watches (a nod to the milestone anniversary). The brand used one of its signature model lines, the Oceanmaster, to create this commemorative piece. The Oceanmaster is no stranger to such an environment. Delma developed it for the world’s best offshore sailors to keep time in challenging conditions.

The Brand

Delma is one of those brands that we don’t hear from too often, which is a shame. The brand has a vast collection of timepieces. Whether we’re talking about Racing, Diver, Aero, or Dress watches, the brand has something in store. Currently, there are 21 model lines in the four categories above. It’s is safe to say that Delma has a lot to offer.

Furthermore, we are talking about a company with its centenary just around the corner. The company was established in 1924 in Lengnau, near Grenchen and Biel. In 1946 its first chronograph came to market. Shortly after that, in 1954, Delma released its first sports chronograph. From the end of the 1960s, the brand introduced many divers’ watches. Some, like the Quattro or the Shell Star, are still popular today.

While the Oceanmaster is in the core collection, there is nothing standard about this reworked LE. For Nick Moloney’s adventure, the watch was completely overhauled. The most prominent feature is clearly the Oceanmaster’s new, cool blue dial. It is supposedly inspired by the colors of the ice as it meets the surrounding water. The dial’s unusual texture represents the structure of Antarctica’s frozen landscape. A nice touch that adds a lot of character to proceedings.

If you turn the timepiece over, you will find an engraved commemorative case back. It centers the map of the continent as well as the commemorative number (XXX/200), while the text honors the anniversary of the original 1820 exploration. Delma also equipped the Oceanmaster with a tactical planner, points of sail indicators, and a rugged nautical bezel. The case is stainless steel, just like the bracelet. The prominent crown guard, something of a trademark of the Oceanmaster models, also makes an appearance on this limited edition.

ASOC

Honoring the great explorers who discovered our most southern continent is certainly an outstanding objective as it is. However, Delma went a step further and connected this release to a great cause. Due to climate change, greenhouse gases are warming the Earth. For anyone who didn’t realize this, that has an effect on the continent and its inhabitants. Furthermore, Antarctica is home to around 10,000 species. Protecting their natural ecosystem is a race against time. Consequently, Delma has committed to donating a percentage of the proceeds of each Oceanmaster Antarctica sold to ASOC (Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition).

ASOC’s mission is to protect this fantastic wilderness and the captivating wildlife that lives there. We sincerely hope that Delma succeeds in selling all 200 pieces soon. You can check out Delma’s website here.
