A Record-Breaking Weekend At The Geneva Watch Auctions

This weekend in Geneva, the traditional watch auctions took place. Things were different than before, as many Covid-19 precautions were still in place. This also meant that they could not examine the watches themselves before the sale, although various digital initiatives tried to give them as much information as possible. That made it that the auctions could definitely be seen as a test on how the outbreak of Covid-19 would impact the vintage watch market. READ MORE

HomeIndustry NewsBreaking Baselworld: Rolex, Tudor, And Patek Philippe Are Out Industry NewsRolexBreaking Baselworld: Rolex, Tudor, And Patek Philippe Are Out It could be Hammertime by Rob Nudds April 15, 2020 MIN READBreaking Baselworld: Rolex, Tudor, And Patek Philippe Are OutLast week, the news that Rolex, Tudor, and Patek Philippe were postponing their 2020 releases was confirmed across the board. That announcement — vague as it was — sired more questions than answers. The most pressing? The future of Baselworld. With yesterday’s confirmation that all three brands will step away from the storied fair, we have more grain for the conversation mill.
That’s got to be curtains, right? I’m yet to encounter a different reaction. I’ve heard people — even myself — desperately trying to present this news as anything but a death knell for Baselworld, but it doesn’t seem to be sticking. But before we take a slightly deeper dive into what got us to this point, let’s bluntly address the news its..

BREAKING NEWS: Baselworld 2020 Postponed To January 2021

In light of Switzerland’s recent decision to quite literally ban exhibitions and events expecting more than 1,000 visitors for the foreseeable future due to coronavirus related concerns, it is no surprise to find the news of Baselworld 2020 postponed to January 2021 breaking. The fair joins Watches & Wonders (ex-SIHH), that communicated the same decision to the same effect just yesterday.
Michel Loris-Melikoff, Managing Director of Baselworld.
Michel Loris-Melikoff, Managing Director of Baselworld said: “We deeply regret having had to postpone the event as planned due to the coronavirus, in full consideration of the needs of the watch and jewellery industry to be able to benefit from the platform to develop their business. This decision has been all the more difficult in view of all the positives that have been achieved through listening and dialogue over the last few months, which resulted in new concepts and new solutions, that have attracted exhibitors to return..

BREAKING NEWS: Watches & Wonders Geneva 2020 (Formerly SIHH) Is Canceled Until 2021

The organizers of Watches & Wonders Geneva (the luxury wrist watch and jewelry trade show formerly known as SIHH) have just announced that Watches & Wonders Geneva 2020 is to be canceled. This news arrived with the assurance that Watches & Wonders Geneva 2021 is on track and currently being organized.
Watches & Wonders Geneva is a trade show organized by the FHH (Fondation de al Haute Horlogerie) and created for the benefit of FHH member brands (mostly firms within the Richemont Group). The FHH made the difficult decision to cancel Watches & Wonders due to a series of international complexities which have made it very challenging for luxury watch brands (as well as their trade show guests) to productively conduct business in 2020. The official reason for the cancellation of Watches & Wonders Geneva 2020 are concerns about the COVID-19 coronavirus. The virus has been found in Europe and has already been responsible for the cancellation of a few high-profile trade shows.
