Make your favorite G-Shock style heard! by Gerard Nijenbrinks June 02, 2020 MIN READCasio G-Shock, Square, or Third Eye? Which Watch Is For You? Square Third EyeConsidering a G-Shock with conventional looks and functionality? What would be your preferred style? Square or rounded?
From previous articles, you might have learned that the original DW-5000C-1A G-Shock, presented in 1983, had a more or less squared case design. After that, in 1987, the first round-cased G-Shock model, the DW-5700C, was released. However, it was already 1995 before another truly iconic design would see the light — the DW-6900-1V nicked the Third Eye.
Third Eye was G-Shock’s second iconic designThe Third Eye was composed of earlier designs. It wasn’t just the round shape from the DW-5700C. The Triple Graph dial of the DW-5900C (1992) and the fr..

Casio G-Shock Square For Starters

HomeWatch TalkCasio G-Shock Square For Starters Watch TalkGShockCasio G-Shock Square For Starters Or for those who can't see the wood for the trees by Gerard Nijenbrinks April 20, 2020 MIN READCasio G-Shock Square For StartersBeginning of the 1980s, Mr. Kikuo Ibe designed the first Casio watch according to the Tripple-10 concept. Waterproof to 10 bar, drop-proof to 10 meters, and a battery life of 10 years. This watch, the G-Shock DW-5000C, became an icon in its own right. And for many high-end watch aficionados, it became a guilty pleasure to love them.

Casio G-Shock SquareNow, almost 40 years later, for this matter, we’re happy that we have many G-Shock Squares to choose from. Possibly too many! Determining what to look for following the original G-Shock is tough. We get many requests from our readers to help them decide which G-Shock they should buy. We will shed some light on that, lead by three basic objectives:

How Not to be Seen: A Primer on Camouflage with the Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000CM

To borrow a bit of parlance from the kitchen, camouflage in fashion is a bit like truffle oil. It’s tired, it’s overdone, and it’s far from edgy — but it makes a trendy resurgence every few years despite our best efforts to dismiss its cultural contributions as another try-hard tactic to drum up interest. However, when used in the right application (and volume) it can actually be pretty amazing. Overdo it, and the meal is ruined. Late last year, Casio released a limited new capsule collection of premium “Full Metal” G-Shocks, which were finished with a wild laser-etched camouflage pattern. As a military history buff and a fan of the classic square-dialed G-Shocks, my full attention was immediately captured by the titanium variant. But I was also skeptical. Despite being such a fan of the many applications and types of camouflage throughout history, I’d never owned a camo watch because, to be frank, they are usually very ugly. There is a line, and most cross it.

It’s virtually impossi..

Casio Pro Trek PRG600YB-2 Watch Review

I’ll be the first to admit that the Casio Pro Trek line is more than a little bit outside my own horological comfort zone. I’ve never been described as an “outdoorsy” type, and I’m far more likely to be spotted wearing a vintage racing chronograph than anything solar-powered. That said, it’s hard not to be charmed by the blend of quality, affordability, and sheer overwhelming functionality of this particular model, the Casio Pro Trek PRG600YB-2.

For those who have never handled a Pro Trek before, the general concept of this watch is that it’s a G-Shock that isn’t a G-Shock. While it may not have the impervious-to-small-arms-fire durability of Casio’s legendary Shock Resist, these watches still pack the same wide variety of functions into a more affordable package that’s still tough enough to handle mountaineering, long hikes, and the general rigors of the outdoors.

There’s no getting around the fact that the Casio Pro Trek PRG600YB-2 is a massive watch. At 51.6 mm across, the hard ..

Casio G-Shock MR-G “Bruce Lee” MRGG2000BL-9A Limited Edition Watch

Casio recently announced this high-end limited edition G-Shock MR-G, in attractive black and yellow tones, in honor of Bruce Lee, as 2020 would have been the film and martial arts star’s 80th birthday. The watch is the Casio G-Shock reference MRGG2000BL-9A, which is part of the modern generation MR-G (MRG-G2000) timepiece family that aBlogtoWatch has covered previously in other forms. The GPS and Bluetooth-based movement represents the most sophisticated technology employed in Casio’s analog timepieces, and the MR-G (given its higher price point) is where Casio likes to play with various artistic techniques and aesthetic themes.

Indeed, Casio’s design team imagined that Bruce Lee would have been able to wear the limited-edition Bruce..

Casio Pro Trek WSD-F21 HR Watch Review

If you’re in the market for a tough, durable, outdoor watch and ask a watch enthusiast what to buy, 10-to-1 odds say the answer is a Casio G-Shock. Not a bad suggestion, by any means, but it’s not the only worthy contender within Casio’s line. Casio’s Pro Trek line is often overshadowed by its über-popular older sibling, but the Pro Trek line was designed specifically for rough-and-tumble outdoor use. For those in the know, the Pro Trek line was (and to some extent still is) the choice du jour if you are looking for features like altimeter, barometer, compass, and thermometer without paying the premium for a high-end G-Shock. Sure, you don’t get the G-Shock’s Shock Resist, but you gain access to a myriad of high-end features and access them at an attractive price point.

The Casio Pro Trek WSD-F21 HR (hereafter: Pro Trek) is a fully-featured GPS smartwatch with optical heart-rate monitor that runs on Google’s Wear OS system and certainly doesn’t suffer in the toughness category, featu..

But news has been breaking from the organiser and from major brands lately, and we don’t want you to miss out.
A while ago, Fratello has been informed by Grand Seiko and Seiko that the brands have cancelled their presence at Baselworld 2020. Instead, they will be staging their own GS Summit in Tokyo in early March.

After exhibiting for 30 years, Seiko has cited the dates of the 2020 event as the ‘official’ reason for its departure. Scheduled for 30th April – 5th May, the fair is too late for the manufacturer because it conflicts with the Golden Week (a major holiday in Japan).

Casio G-Shock X Herschel G-Lide Watch Hands-On & Interview

When I attended Casio’s launch party for the G-Shock X Herschel Supply Co. G-Lide launch event, I immediately realized that this new reference GLX5600HSC-3 (aka GLX5600HSC-3CR) limited-edition timepiece was not your average Casio collaboration product. Herschel Supply Co. has their design studio based in Los Angeles, and is most well known for its backpacks, but what I also learned is that they have a seriously talented and motivated creative team. The resulting watch that Casio and Herschel produced together represents what more of these limited edition collaborations should be like, offering aesthetic good looks, emotionally gratifying detailing, and a packaging experience that reminds everyone why people in circa 2019 still really like traditional wristwatches.

To learn about the project from Herschel’s perspective, I spoke with Herschel Supply Co.’s Creative Director Jon Warren in an interview below. Before we get to that, I’d like to offer a few thoughts about the G-Shock X Hersc..

Casio Broadcasts Exit From Baselworld 2020

Baselworld, once the undisputed center of the watch industry calendar, has been troubled in recent years as brands have begun to abandon the traditional set piece event for exclusive company events and more varied release schedules. The latest brand to announce its departure from the show is Japanese giant Casio, which declared its intention to pull out of Baselworld 2020 early Wednesday.

Casio is the second major Japanese brand to depart from the show in recent weeks, following Seiko’s announcement during the first week of November that neither Seiko nor Grand Seiko will exhibit at Basel in 2020, citing scheduling concerns. Like Seiko as well as Swiss manufacturer Breitling, Casio has pointed to the relatively late date of the 2020 Basel show (currently scheduled from April 30 to May 5) conflicting with its own release schedule as the reason for its decision.

This is the latest signal of a potential sea change in the industry trade show calendar, as the massive S..
