We saw “the mouse”, made a light saber, took a Disney cruise, and I picked up a couple watches including the fantastic Oak & Oscar Olmsted. It was a great vacation, but it was already a little strange. The USA had cut off travelers from China and the large groups from the massive country were notably absent in this to..

The Coronavirus Strikes Again

HomeNewsThe Coronavirus Strikes Again NewsCitizenThe Coronavirus Strikes Again Citizen and Bulova announce their withdrawal from Baselworld 2020 by Rob NuddsFebruary 25, 2020 MIN READThe Coronavirus Strikes AgainAs Baselworld creeps ever nearer, the concern surrounding the spread of the Coronavirus seems to be infectious. Citizen and Bulova are out. And so we ask, who’s next?
Sadly, we received confirmation yesterday that both Citizen and Bulova will be stepping away from the famous Swiss fair this year. Unusually, the joint statement released to the press names the Coronavirus explicitly. Although early withdrawals made oblique references to the reasons behind the impending absence, the cat is now well and truly out of the bag. This is a crisis. It is a situation that could wipe an entire year’s worth of events from the watchmaking calendar. But worse still, of course, are the human tragedies of this potentially lethal virus.

BREAKING NEWS: Citizen And Bulova Announce Withdrawal From Baselworld 2020 Over Coronavirus

The troubling trend of withdrawals from the 2020 Baselworld trade show continued this morning, with Japanese industry giant Citizen announcing that both Citizen and its stablemate brand Bulova will not be attending the show. In its official statement, Citizen cited the growing threat of the coronavirus epidemic as the reason for the abrupt decision.
In November of last year, Citizen Group had delivered a statement reconfirming its commitment to Baselworld for 2020 amid news of scheduling-related withdrawals by several other major brand groups. With this latest announcement, none of the Japanese Big Three brands (Citizen, Seiko, and Casio) are currently scheduled to display at the event.
Interestingly, aBlogtoWatch has spoken with representatives from fellow Citizen Group brands Frederique Constant and Alpina, who have stated that as of press time both brands are still slated to attend the 2020 show. aBlogtoWatch will continue monitoring these brands and report any further changes as ..

Swatch Group Cancels Time To Move Event Amid Coronavirus Fears

While the luxury watch trade show landscape has changed drastically heading into 2020, the latest change to the lineup of events might be the most unexpected of all. As part of its efforts to divest itself from the traditional tentpole Baselworld event, Swatch Group had planned to unveil its 2020 novelties at its self-hosted Time to Move show in Zurich from March 4-6, 2020. This morning Swatch Group public relations announced that Time to Move has been cancelled, citing the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak currently spreading worldwide from China as a reason. The group is seeking to avoid international travel as much as possible during this tense period to avoid further transmission of the disease.
The announcement comes as a shock to many in the industry, with many journalists and brand partners already having booked accommodations for the event. It is unclear at this point as well how this cancellation will affect Swatch Group’s marketing plans for 2020, as many announcements from brand..
