With the recent Octo Finissimo watches, they are throwing some good punches. We’ve been raving about the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo watches a number of times, it has become one of our favorite new watches.
You are probably also aware that Bvlgari is a proper watch manufacture, located in several places in Switzerland. We visited the Pôle Habillage in Saignelégier, the assembly atelier in Neuchâtel, and the Bvlgari Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie in Le Sentier. In this article, we show you how things are done at Bvlgari.

Zenith knows this all too well as the story of the revival of the famous El Primero movement revolves around the attic of their Zenith Manufacture building. In 1975, now Zenith legend Charles Vermot hid all the technical plans and tools necessary to produce every component of the famous El Primero movement. Amongst them, a box of prototype dials for the El Primero A386 that were never used in production. Until now, with the introduction of the Zenith Chronomaster Revival A386 Manufacture Edition.

Zenith Launches A Rhapsody In Blue With Chronomaster Revival “Manufacture Edition”

The story is one of the true legends of the watch world; how Charles Vermot, watchmaker at Zenith, got in the 1970's the orders to destroy everything connected to the El Primero movement but instead hide everything away on the attic. While the management thought that quartz movements would soon be all there is, Vermot kept believing that there was a future in mechanical watchmaking and was proved to be right in the end. Today the El Primero is one of the most acclaimed chronograph movements and Zenith one of the highest stars in mechanical watchmaking. That attic turned out to be a real treasure trove. Next to everything they needed to start the production of the El Primero again also other things were uncovered such a stunning dial for the A386 El Primero. This dial is now featured in a special edition of the Chronomaster Revival “Manufacture Edition.” READ MORE

Factory Visit — Czech Prim Manufacture

We all live in different corners of the world. We all speak different languages. And we certainly all have our local heroes and legends. I am not just speaking about people. Often, there are local brands that no one 200 meters beyond the border of the country care about. But within those borders, such brands come to mind faster than any world giant.
If it weren’t for communisim, Prim probably never would have been born…
There are 10.5 million people living in the Czech Republic and 5.5 million people living in Slovakia. The two countries used to be united as Czechoslovakia (until 1960) or as the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (CS..

A Special Visit To Lucerne & The Carl F. Bucherer Watch Manufacture

Watch manufactures, like watches, come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Their levels of integrity, capability, and quality not only help distinguish one from the other but also add a directly correlated price to the equation, too. I accompanied Patrick B. from L.A. — who got to participate after drawn as the winner of the main prize on our event in late 2019 — on this special trip to Carl F. Bucherer‘s hometown of Lucerne, as well as to its in-house manufacture. Now, with the images and this report, I hope to take you right along with us, behind the scenes of this truly dedicated luxury watchmaker.

On a personal note, if I may say, what made this manufacture visit especially fun for me was that Patrick proved himself to be such an outstanding watch-lover, one of the countless among you who truly deserved luck to be on his side and have his name drawn from a ball on that event. Through his eyes and his feedback, as he experienced his very first visit to a Swiss high-end watch manufac..

Norqain Partners With Kenissi, The Watch Movement Manufacture Tied To Tudor & Chanel

Founded in 2018, Norqain watches just announced that they are partnering with Kenissi. If you’ll recall, Kenissi is the movement manufacture that is the “industrial arm” of Rolex-owned Tudor and is 20% owned by Chanel. As of now, Norqain has introduced two movements (a three-hand and a GMT) that will be followed up with new watches some time in June.

Currently Kenissi is based in Geneva, though there is a new facility being built in Le Locle that should open sometime in 2021. Rolex is building this new manufacture, which will apparently be split between Kenissi and Tudor. The two movements that are being developed for Norqain are the NN20/1 three-hand and the NN20/2 GMT with jumping hour feature, both of which have a 70-hour power reserve. I believe these Norqain movements share a lot with the Tudor Calibre MT5601 and MT5652 movements used in their Black Bay and Black Bay GMT watches.

Being the first is never easy. The temptation to create noise through superfluous additions and a ground-shaking aesthetic is ever-present. But restraint — especially when it comes to limited editions — is wise. By choosing a tried and true model and making tasteful tweaks, the designers have bolstered this model’s long-term appeal.
