The Citizen 0200 Automatic Watch With Movement That Merges Japanese & Swiss Craftsmanship

Sponsored post presented on aBlogtoWatch by advertiser
In the several hundred-year history of horology, a mere decade is a blip. In the realm of technology, it is practically an epoch. These two worlds combine today as Japan’s Citizen watches releases its first newly developed mechanical movement since the year 2010. After an 11 year wait, Citizen now launches a brand-new mechanical movement and wristwatch to house it. The mechanism is the Citizen Caliber 0200, the product of a technology and technique exchange between Switzerland and Japan.

Situated in a traditional nerve-center of Swiss watchmaking, the watch movement maker La Joux-Perret was acquired by the Citizen Group back in 2012. It was always the Group’s intent to maintain a large degree of independence to the still Switzerland-run movement maker, while actively incorporating traditional Swiss movement design and decoration techniques with the honed skills of Citizen’s micro-mechanical engineers back in J..

A New Hi-Beat Movement For The Grand Seiko SLGH002

HomeWatch TalkA New Hi-Beat Movement For The Grand Seiko SLGH002 Watch TalkGrand SeikoA New Hi-Beat Movement For The Grand Seiko SLGH002 Caliber 9SA5 offers 80 hours of power reserve and a new escapement by Robert-Jan BroerMarch 12, 2020 MIN READA New Hi-Beat Movement For The Grand Seiko SLGH002Grand Seiko is introducing a new version of their Hi-beat movement, the 9SA5. And what better way to do it than in an over-the-top gold Grand Seiko limited to 100 pieces only?
At least Grand Seiko now has our (and your) attention with this new reference SLGH002 with a retail price of €45,000. Besides the awesome looks of the 44GS case and the use of gold, what is it that makes it so special?
For Grand Seiko’s 60th anniversary, the brand has created a beautiful watch that looks like the 44GS design from 1967 and they’ve made it of 18K yellow gold. If that’s not impressive already, Grand Seiko also uses this (relatively) small batch of limited edition watches to introduce something pretty importan..

Grand Seiko Debuts Updated 9SA5 Hi-Beat Movement In SLGH002 60th Anniversary Watch

Grand Seiko has just announced the 9SA5, the long awaited new Hi-Beat movement that will debut later this year with the SLGH002, a new 60th Anniversary Limited Edition watch. The watch is classic Grand Seiko with a yellow gold 44GS-inspired case that has some new updates and refinements that are afforded by the slimmer new caliber. The SLGH002 will be limited to 100 pieces, but we can expect to see more watches outfitted with this new caliber as time goes on.

First, let’s start with the 9SA5 Hi-Beat movement. As its name suggests, it operates at 36,000 vph, but Grand Seiko has increased the power reserve to 80 hours (the existing 9S85 has a 55-hour power reserve). Accuracy remains 5 to –3 seconds per day. Grand Seiko explains that the new movement is the result of three major changes to their Hi-Beat caliber, with several patented components.

The first is an all-new Dual-Impulse Escapement, which increases efficiency and transmits power to the balance wheel in one direction as well..

Grand Seiko Debuts New Spring Drive Movement In SLGA001 60th Anniversary Dive Watch

I got a sense that Grand Seiko was just getting warmed up with the announcement of its 60th Anniversary pieces last month, and boy was that ever putting it mildly. Continuing the anniversary comes reference SLGA001 – a burly 600 meter titanium dive watch equipped with a groundbreaking new five-day Spring Drive movement that’s objectively better than its predecessor in nearly every way.

Before we get too *ahem* deep into the new dive watch, it’s worth noting that the 60th anniversary is recognized as a more momentous occasion in Japanese culture – particularly in the realm of timekeeping, where 60 is of course the primary governor for two of any watch’s most crucial functions: seconds and minutes. But in a more esoteric sense, 60 is also a divisor of the rate at which nearly all mechanical watches are regulated: 36,000bph (60 x 600), 28,800 (60 x 480), and 21,600bph (60 x 350). It bears repeating that since most of the 60th anniversary releases we’ve seen so far are limited in some ca..

IWC Upgrades The Portugieser Chronograph With New In-House Automatic Chronograph Movement

For over 20 years, the Portugieser Chronograph has been an elegantly sporty cornerstone to IWC’s product lineup. For the majority of that time, however, the average Portugieser Chronograph model has been powered by a modified version of a readily available caliber from Valjoux or Sellita. While in-house movements have been available in limited edition or high-end Portugieser models before, for 2020 the brand has added some serious value to the model line in the form of the Caliber 69355 automatic power-plant. In total, six versions of the new Reference 3716 Portugieser Chronograph, including four in stainless steel and two in 18k 5N gold, have been announced with the new movement, along with a handful of additional upgrades.

Visually, this new series of models is nearly unchanged from the classic Portugieser look with a 41mm case sporting simple lines and broad-shouldered lugs. Around back, the new models differentiate themselves with a sapphire display back, showcasing the new Calib..

Norqain Partners With Kenissi, The Watch Movement Manufacture Tied To Tudor & Chanel

Founded in 2018, Norqain watches just announced that they are partnering with Kenissi. If you’ll recall, Kenissi is the movement manufacture that is the “industrial arm” of Rolex-owned Tudor and is 20% owned by Chanel. As of now, Norqain has introduced two movements (a three-hand and a GMT) that will be followed up with new watches some time in June.

Currently Kenissi is based in Geneva, though there is a new facility being built in Le Locle that should open sometime in 2021. Rolex is building this new manufacture, which will apparently be split between Kenissi and Tudor. The two movements that are being developed for Norqain are the NN20/1 three-hand and the NN20/2 GMT with jumping hour feature, both of which have a 70-hour power reserve. I believe these Norqain movements share a lot with the Tudor Calibre MT5601 and MT5652 movements used in their Black Bay and Black Bay GMT watches.

Kenissi is very quiet so far, though they did d..

It’s no coincidence that I chose and planned this article for today. At this time last year (January 10th to be precise), I wrote my first ever article for Fratello Magazine. As a vintage watch nerd, my first piece happened to be #TBT article. To mark the occasion, I wanted to write about something special. After quickly scanning my collection, I decided to delve into a non-traditional date chronograph from Bucherer. I found this model particularly interesting because of its movement. Not only did it feature a flyback chronograph mechanism, but it also boasted a big date. And when I say a big date, I really (really) mean it.

Atelier Millésime Launches The Monarque Diver With Vaucher Movement

Sponsored Post written for aBlogtoWatch by advertiser

Despite the passage of time, the iconic Art Deco design sensibilities of the 1930s and the evolutionary styles of the 1950s and 1960s remain favorites among watch enthusiasts. Few enthusiasts understand this better than esteemed Singaporean watch collector Benjamin Chee, whose expertise has guided both the incredible creations of Benjamin Chee Haute Horologerie and the uniquely Chinese artisanship of Maison Celadon.

For his latest endeavor, Chee has launched Atelier Millésime (abbreviated as AM), dedicated to reinterpreting and blending these classic designs into an altogether superior new vision. The brand’s name translates literally to “Vintage Workshop,” and AM is a true workshop in every sense of the word, lovingly handcrafting each timepiece in a family-owned facility in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The choice of a Swiss-French name further honors the ancestral design tradition of these stunning pieces.

The central concep..
