March 6 to March 21, 2021 marks the 36th running of the prestigious America’s Cup yacht race, set to be hosted in the waters around Auckland, New Zealand. Since 1851, the race has stood as the pinnacle of the sport, with challengers from around the world fighting for years for a chance to qualify. While the event itself is one of the oldest continuously run international sporting events, Omega has a long America’s cup history of its own, with a legacy of limited edition Seamaster and Speedmaster models produced for both competing teams and the event itself since 1995. As the new event draws near, the brand has produced a special variant of its Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph to celebrate (although this is the second model the brand has produced to commemorate the 36th America’s Cup). More than just celebrating the prestigious race, the special edition Omega Seamaster Diver 300M America’s Cup Chronograph introduces several unique features to the Seamaster line that may point the way fo..
One of the strangest side effects of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic on the luxury watch industry is the rise of what might be called “phantom limited editions.” With so many events postponed or canceled, 2020 brought with it a wide crop of limited-edition models commemorating things that never actually occurred, and perhaps the highest-profile example of this is the series of designs Omega released for the (currently postponed) 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. This “phantom limited edition” concept is beginning to drive massive collector interest, as searches for Omega Olympic models were up over 200 percent in 2020 on the popular online watch trading platform Chrono24. With this swelling consumer interest, and with major international events like the Olympics still very much in doubt for the foreseeable future, Omega is doubling down on the phenomenon in preparation for the upcoming Winter Olympics, currently scheduled for early 2022 in Beijing. The new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M ..
As we charge straight into the Year of the Ox, in the watch world, it’s really starting to look like the Year of the Chronograph, with blockbuster releases dominating the conversation thus far. Leading that charge has been the long-awaited update to the venerable Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional. And while demand for the venerable “Speedy Pro” has never formally waned in the collecting community, Omega’s hesitancy to modernize its most important property had maybe started to get a little long in the tooth, leaving the Moonwatch feeling a little dated in face of increasingly stiff competition from Breitling, TAG Heuer, and most recently, Zenith. All that changes with the new Master Chronometer-certified Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch which fully modernizes Omega’s most beloved chronograph and subtly improves its visual identity while deftly appeasing the notoriously picky Speedmaster collecting community. More importantly though, it finally gives “Speedy-curious” collectors ..
After what’s felt like years of speculation, followed by numerous false leads, and then an untimely delay on the heels of a global pandemic, the legendary Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch has finally gotten the update we’ve all been waiting for: an updated Master Chronometer-certified engine, a new(ish) bracelet, and plenty of fan service in the dial, crystal and bezel for good measure – all without forsaking the single most important detail about the perennially handsome Speedmaster: it is once again flight-qualified by NASA “…for all human space missions.” Speedy collectors may now breathe a collective sigh of relief, this is the worthy successor you wanted.
Of course, good looks alone never made watchmaking legends – and with the classic Speedy having rightfully earned its reputation from over 50 decades of space flight and exploration, filling those shoes would prove to be a great challenge indeed. But perhaps the delayed Speedy update in 2021 is right on time, with NASA h..
A watch should make you smile. It should put a little spring in your step. And for the lucky few, it might just do both as you find yourself glancing down at it throughout the day. But it’s a rare instance, indeed, when a watch mixes a sober horological legacy with state-of-the-art mechanical innovation — all with the expressed purpose of manufacturing joy. The Omega Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Silver Snoopy edition is the third in a whimsical trio of limited-edition Speedmasters that have each paid homage to a quirky NASA award (which was given to the Speedmaster after the watch was credited with helping save the astronauts of the doomed Apollo 13 mission back in 1970), each time yielding highly collectible, but markedly different, outcome.
Unlike the first two editions, which paid tribute to the Snoopy award in the ways and means many special or limited-edition Swiss watches tend to pay tribute to something, this iteration eschews the traditional staid embellishments and goes in th..
HomeTBT#TBT Omega Reference 2639 TBT#TBT Omega Reference 2639 Possibly the most overlooked vintage Omega out there by Balazs Ferenczi June 25, 2020 MIN READ#TBT Omega Reference 2639When I look at the vintage time-only Omega watches that I own, I see a pattern. Most of them are from the ’50s. They have a larger 35mm+ case size and a second’s sub-dial at 6. I don’t know why, but I’m just drawn to these timepieces like this excellent reference 2639(-14) with golden stardust dial and Dauphine hands.
Today’s subject is not my first 2639. Throughout the years I’ve been collecting watches, I came across a good few examples. Still, I have to say; this is the most beautiful example I have ever had. There is just something special about watches with black dials. Although I’m not a big fan of gold indexes and steel cases, it just works well with this 2639.
Reference 2639PostThe first thing we should do when looking at vintage watches is determining their ages. In today’s world, this is relatively..

Sometimes, the sheer volume of limiteds can be overwhelming. With the #SpeedyTuesday editions we’ve contributed to that as well. While limited editions may be more common these days, that’s nothing new. Let’s have a closer look at my Top-5 of earlier NASA/Apollo dedicated Limited Edition Omega Speedmaster models.
In 1969, Omega introduced a numbered series of 18k yellow gold Speedmaster Professional watches. We did a review of that model here. These were more or less Limited Editions avant la lettre. They weren’t limited, but they were sequentially numbered — we learned that only 1,014 pieces were made, of which #1 was offered to ..

We'll show you how to tell the difference! play video by Robert-Jan Broer June 23, 2020 MIN READOmega Seamaster 300M “James Bond” — Real Vs. FakeToday, we’re taking a look at an authentic Omega Seamaster 300M and a very high fidelity replica. It used to be very simple to tell the difference. Fakes were cheap knock-offs. They often made obvious mistakes. Many of the key details were wrong. Sometimes, everything was wrong. But in today’s world, replica watches are getting better and better. Sometimes, they are awfully close to the original.
The fake Omega Seamaster 300M James Bond limited edition for the 50th anniversary of “On her majesty’s secret service” we have here, is being offered online for prices that come very close to 25% below retail. And it is being offered as an authentic watch. So this is not a watch for those who w..

Seamaster 300M Who will “Master” this battle? by Michael Stockton June 16, 2020 MIN READTwo For Tuesday: Omega Speedmaster Professional Vs. Seamaster 300M Speedmaster Professional Seamaster 300MIt’s time for Two For Tuesday and this week we take a look at two of Omega’s finest. The Speedmaster Professional will throw-down with the Seamaster 300M.
In our inaugural episode of Two For Tuesday, the Rolex GMT 16710 duked it out with the Submariner 14060M. It was the heavyweight battle we all expected, but in the end it was the GMT that prevailed by less than 50 votes! We thank you for all your participation and for some very lively comments. Let’s see if today’s contest between the Speedmaster Professional and Seamaster 300M inspires the same spirited debate.
We all know people who can easily afford a Rolex, but they simply will not buy one. For the..
