Watch Review: Seiko Prospex LX SNR031 Titanium Diver

Judging by how much wrist time this Seiko Prospex LX watch has been getting on my wrist, I think it is safe to say that I’m pretty excited about this particular high-end dive timepiece. Seiko produces so many diver’s watches, at so many price points — that doesn’t include Grand Seiko diver’s watches — that it continues to be a collector’s challenge simply to keep track of them. Seiko doesn’t make things easy by supplementing its core collection watches with limited editions that arrive with different price points. Wading through the waters of Seiko divers is something even we at aBlogtoWatch get confused by, but when the right watch dons our wrist and makes us smile, we thank Seiko for all their experimentation and variety. This leads me to start my review of the Seiko Prospex LX SNR031 watch, which is near the top of what a Seiko-branded watch will cost you (but not the top for sure). In the United States, the watch is called the SNR031, but interesting enough in Japan and perhaps oth..

Journey To See The Seiko Prospex Ice Diver Watches In Action

“Bring your warmest clothing,” the message stipulated. Nearly one year into the global pandemic and my first opportunity to get out of Los Angeles is to the frozen north where Seiko’s U.S. team is testing out the Prospex Ice Diver watches (debuted on aBlogtoWatch here). Weighing the pros and cons of travel, my hunger for adventure dominates and I succumb to Seiko’s siren song and dust off my suitcases. From traveling monthly to stationary living in California, I worry that my airport navigation skills are rusty.
Strapping on a sports watch, I arrive at LAX during pre-dawn hours and find myself elated to once again hear mid-1990s pop music emanating from no particular place in the airport terminal. “This was a good idea,” I tell myself optimistically as I ponder the question of why I am so happy to visit a semi-frozen lake in Michigan to see diver’s watches… doing their thing. The plan is that of Seiko’s Eric Hofmann, who (together with fellow watch industry veteran Bob Brennan) overse..

Seiko Unveils Prospex SLA049 And SLA051 Dive Watches Commemorating Naomi Uemura

The 1970 Seiko 6105 is one of the most enduring and revered references in the brand’s long history. The wide, rounded cushion case and classic Seiko diver dial have become icons among enthusiasts, with Seiko releasing both faithful recreations and stylish modern reinterpretations in the past few years. As part of its 2021 novelties, Seiko aims to bridge the gap between these two approaches, bringing together the original proportions and design of the 1970 original with a dramatic new textured dial treatment and a thoroughly modern movement. While the 6105 line may be best remembered in the West on the wrist of Charlie Sheen’s Captain Willard in the seminal war film “Apocalypse Now,” Japanese enthusiasts associate the watch with famed Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura, who used the 6105 on a solo dog sledding expedition from Greenland to Alaska between 1974 and 1976. Both the limited-edition Seiko Prospex SLA049 and Seiko Prospex SLA051 aim to commemorate the adventurer’s life on his 80t..

Seiko Announces A Trio Of Limited Edition 140th Anniversary Prospex Dive Watches

2021 is shaping up to be a milestone year for Japanese giant Seiko, as the brand celebrates 140 years since its initial founding in 1881. To kick off its anniversary proceedings Seiko has unveiled three limited edition Prospex diver models with a colorway inspired by the Japanese diver’s paradise, the tranquil island of Iriomote in Okinawa. With deep, luxuriant green dial finishes and classic Seiko aesthetics, the limited edition Seiko Prospex SLA047, Seiko Prospex SPB207, and Seiko Prospex SSC807 are a sporting kickoff to what should be a year of festivities from the historic brand.
All three models in this 140th anniversary series share stainless steel case designs with their regular production counterparts. For the Seiko Prospex SLA047, this is a remarkably faithful interpretation of the original 1968 Hi-Beat Diver form. Like its ‘60s forebear, the sharply faceted 44.3mm “Grammar of Design” case is dominated by its angular case side construction, creating a flowing polished outer b..

Watch Review: Seiko Prospex SNR033 Spring Drive GMT

I came to this review with some previous high-end Seiko GMT watch experience. In a few ways, this Seiko Prospex SNR033 is the spiritual successor to the Grand Seiko SBGE001 watch (review on aBlogtoWatch here). The SBGE0001 is one of the best daily-wear GMT watches Japan has ever made, and when it was originally released over a decade ago, it was under Seiko’s Grand Seiko brand. Since then, a lot has changed.
Grand Seiko has formally split off from the Seiko brand as a sister company. And the price point at which Grand Seiko sports watches used to be is now inhabited by higher-end “Seiko Luxe” watches that fill this space, as Grand Seiko price points have moved even higher. The SBGE and SNR033 have the same movement and overall features; they differ in terms of style and case materials but are clearly close relatives given they share things such as having a sapphire crystal cap over the bi-directional rotating GMT bezel. This was a very exotic feature when the SBGE001 originally came o..

Seiko Prospex SNJ029 And SNJ031 Are Blockbuster Successes

HomeHands-OnSeiko Prospex SNJ029 And SNJ031 Are Blockbuster Successes Hands-OnSeiko Prospex SNJ029 And SNJ031 Are Blockbuster Successes Chalk me up for a green… by Rob Nudds June 04, 2020 MIN READSeiko Prospex SNJ029 And SNJ031 Are Blockbuster SuccessesI’m sick to the stomach. It just isn’t fair. I thought I’d been through this already. I had just about managed to convince myself that I didn’t need last year’s SNJ025 and then Seiko decided to release the new SNJ029 and SNJ031. Needless to say, my resolve is in tatters.
I shouldn’t complain. For this kind of money, you’re getting a huge amount of watch. Better still, you’re getting an under-the-radar cult classic, brought bang up-to-date with on-trend colorways. To be quite honest, it was the green that did it for me. I have a micro-collection of Casio Mudmasters that I rarely wear but can’t stop buying because of their mastery of color. The SNJ031 in green particular grabbed me the moment I laid eyes upon it and hasn’t let go since.

Meet The Seiko Prospex Urban Safari Watches

HomeWatch ReleasesMeet The Seiko Prospex Urban Safari Watches Watch ReleasesSeikoMeet The Seiko Prospex Urban Safari Watches A Safari theme based on the Tuna and Arnie by Robert-Jan Broer May 18, 2020 MIN READMeet The Seiko Prospex Urban Safari WatchesSeiko is on a roll with its Street Series. For the Seiko Prospex “Tuna” and “Arnie” models, the Japanese brand is adding Urban Safari editions to the lineup.
It is pretty cool to see that the “Tuna” is doing so well. When I tried the 6159-7010 and the SDBX011 back in 2015, it felt like I was wearing something extraordinary. You still don’t see them on every wrist, of course, but with the number of variations that Seiko has, it is definitely more common now. The other version is based on the “Arnie” H558 or its more recent references SNJ025 and SNJ028.

Urban Safari TunaThe Seiko 6159-7010 “Tuna” was introduced in 1975 and this professional diver’s watch is still very much alive in the Seiko Prospex collections. There are so many variation..
