VIDEO: Hands-On With The Grand Seiko SBGH277 And SBGH279 The new 44GS style three-handers up close play video by Robert-Jan Broer May 26, 2020 MIN READVIDEO: Hands-On With The Grand Seiko SBGH277 And SBGH279
Earlier this year, Grand Seiko introduced a number of limited edition series for their 60th anniversary. However, very silently, they also snuck in the SBGH277 and SBGH279 references.
I will let the video do the talking (in fact, I did), but you can find some additional pictures of the Grand Seiko SBGH277 and SBGH279 below. These two watches are part of the Heritage collection from Grand Seiko.
SBGH279 — Brushed Grey Dial
SBGH277 — Sunburst Silvery White Dial
Zaratsu Polished 44GS Style
The 40mm Zaratsu polished case has the famous Grand Seiko 44GS style. The original 44GS case is a design of 1967, and a bit different from the cases used today. That’s why we speak of 44GS style, and not just 44GS.
Details about the watch can be found below in the pictures, and in our specification chart.
The Perfect Daily Wear?
As you may know, I have the Grand Seiko SBGJ201 in my collection. For me, it is a near-perfect daily wear. It is the thickness (due to the GMT function) that leaves some room for improvement. The Grand Seiko SBGH277 and SBGH279 are thinner — 13.3mm — but still relatively thick. I don’t understand why Grand Seiko can’t get this under 12mm. On the other hand, it is nitpicking, as I am never bothered by the thickness of my own Grand Seiko. With a retail price of €6,200 for the Grand Seiko SBGH77 and SBGH279, it is a very serious option for those who are in the market for an everyday wear.
Although we are not talking small change here, the value for money you will receive is amazing. There’s no other brand in this price range that offers the same level of finishing when it comes to the case, dial, and hands. Whether this watch is for you, is a matter of taste, certainly not a discussion of quality. You can find our other Grand Seiko videos here.
